Birding and Not Birding: A Sara Journal

Pitsbi!

Unfortunately I did not get to make it out birding this past weekend, as I ended up spending all of Saturday trying to replace my brake pads (something I've never done before, but couldn't afford to pay someone to do) and all of Sunday recovering from hurting my body by trying to replace my brake pads.

But! In lieu of this I wanted to share this incredible video. A Japanese ornithologist did experiments to try to understand the song of the Japanese Tit (a relative of the chickadee) and discovered that they have specific vocabulary for things around them AND that they have grammar for how to combine different words or phrases. As someone who has spent a lot of time paying attention to the chickadees by my house, this actually makes a lot of sense. I would love to try to figure out what all their words and sentences mean.

Here's the link to the video, I can't figure out how to embed things in this blog yet.

See you soon, Sara
